Waiting for spring to arrive

I imagined a perfect place with a backdrop like the one I saw that morning

being from and growing up in Minnesota

but at that point I was into the foreground and was able to tie my work into the previous layer even though it was starting to tense up a bit in consistency

The refuge there rears thousands of waterfowl each year and is a major stop over and wintering grounds for many of the Northern birds migrating downward each fall. I captured the background in a similar photo and knew I had to depict this scene with a couple blue winged teal coming in to land. Specifics: 10x7" on board.
