but I bought them just because I think they're fantastic looking

There are a couple of splits to the wood on the back of two of them

structurally sound and with tight fitting sliding lid that slides well and holds tightly closed

I like these two as a pair for the array of birds represented an owl and what looks to me like some bird of a prey on the top one, and an eagle on the other. Both hand colored, both dating to the mid 19th c I believe, and both presented
