Red and white decks often have a lot of superfluous 1/1 tokens floating around, which quickly get outclassed unless you are just killing your opponent with them + a mass pump spell like [casthaven]Trumpet Blast[/casthaven]

If you assemble your hand carefully and only have cards that benefit you ( Wizards , Divine Healing , etc), most times your opponent will pass the turn because they cant afford to give you an advantage
add 1 Ritual Monster with a different Type and Attribute from your Deck to your hand
Blackbeard pilots have to decide each turn whether to hold that card for the redirect or spend it as a counter, which is a sharper version of the "spend it or lose it" decision every color faces
Dark/Dragon is also a very fitting typing for my very edgy phase of life, which is probably why it was so appealing to me in the first place
