Mithril Coat Taking Darksteel Plate, giving it flash, and letting it attach itself to a legendary creature when it enters the battlefield makes Mithril Coat an incredibly potent card for any deck where your commander is a creature that ends up dying a lot
It performs well as the large finishing creature in an aggro deck that wants to get in quickly and attack, but because it creates treasure it also has a key role to play in controlling decks that can make use of the extra mana it provides
