It can be a little clunky to try and read details on cards though due to how the game chooses to display them, but the game makes sure to show you a description of anything that happens even if you need to navigate a few menus if you want to read about an attack or effect before its used

Aside from flavor, you can interfere with opponents who are using typal effects like Distant Melody or Coat of Arms for value by changing their creatures to other things
In a meta where dealing 1 damage to an opponents creature matters this is potentially: three mana kill a creature, deal 4 to opponent, draw a card and thats a great card
The number to the left of each ability is the impact that ability will have on your Planeswalker's Loyalty
Outside of Storm, I'd much rather drop by three once since you are guaranteed to get that rather than the mana needed for other things
