Some older Magic: The Gathering cards may specify a cost that must be paid during the Upkeep step, such as mana or life, often to trigger a specific effect or avoid a card being sacrificed to your graveyard
On the flipside, for decks with a less doing-damage-each-turn oriented approach, you can have things like Plaguecrafter, Fate Unraveler, or even Sheoldred, the Apocalypse as ways to force sacrifices, or punish drawing cards
Another type of card we arent talking about today are cards that allow opponents to choose whether to draw a card, like my favorite counterspell in Commander, the politically expedient Arcane Denial
But in recent years, the copy rules had been cleaned up allowing us to dip our toe into the water again
Each Commander deck features an Imagine: Courageous Critters planeswalker card in traditional foil, with the non-foil version available in Collector Boosters
